Anxiety is a feeling that most everyone has experienced at some point in their lives. For many people (well, most people) this anxiety is healthy. Anxiety and fear keep us from hurting ourselves. But sometimes, that feeling can get out of hand.
What do I mean? Well, imagine the feeling of being in a car and suddenly realizing you are about to hit something or run off the road. It’s a shock to your system and after it goes away you may feel dizzy, light headed, tingly, etc. But, the feeling goes away. Now imagine that feeling not going away. You would probably think something is seriously wrong. Then you would compound that feeling with those thoughts and the next thing you know, you’re having a panic attack.
That is just one ‘brand’ of anxiety. Anxiety manifests itself in many different ways. For some people, it’s a fear of something (a phobia), such as dark places, crowded rooms, heights, etc. For others, it can come on at random with seemingly no pattern at all. Sometimes people feel anxiety in the mornings only. Sometimes it’s only when they are tired. For some, it’s when they’ve eaten too much. The point is, everyone is different and everyone has their own unique brand of anxiety. Unfortunately, and thanks to the information age, too many of us are negatively affected by it.
I have created this page to share my experience with anxiety. One of the best ways for me to ‘get a grip’ is to read about other people’s struggles and 1) realize I’m not alone and 2) realize I’m not going nuts. I hope you find this page as helpful as I have found others to be.
